Viking Sports Weekly {November 11} – Cleveland State University

Volleyball
-Cleveland State will close out regular season play on the road this weekend, traveling to Milwaukee for a two-match series on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16.
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up two wins over Youngstown State, improving to 19-8 overall and 10-6 in Horizon League play.
-Prior to Saturday’s match against the Penguins, the Vikings recognized the senior quartet of Liberty Torres, Madison Olinger, Emma Walker, and Ella Mihacevich.
 
Cross Country
-The Vikings will close out the 2024 campaign at the NCAA Regionals this week, with the 6K set for Friday, November 15 in Norton, Ohio.
-Last time out, Ana Crangle won the 5K Twilight Challenge, while Natalie Keller (2nd) and Ariana Coats (4th) also notched top-five finishes.
 
Men’s Soccer
-Cleveland State wrapped up its 2024 campaign last weekend, appearing in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament.
-The Vikings had five All-League honorees, including one on the First Team, three on the Second Team and one on the Third Team.
-Bojan Kolevski received his second career #HLMSOC Player of the Year award, while Matteo Correia was named the Freshman of the Year.
 
Women’s Basketball
-Cleveland State will split its time at home and on the road this week, hosting Bowling Green in the home opener on Tuesday, November 12, before traveling to Akron on Saturday, November 16.
-Last time out, the Vikings went 1-1 to start the year, dropping the season opener at nationally ranked Ohio State and picking up a 111-67 victory over Chicago State.
-Through the first two games, Mickayla Perdue is averaging 30.0 points, while Sara Guerreiro is averaging a double-double with 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds.
 
Men’s Basketball
-Cleveland State will be back in action with two games this week, traveling to Valparaiso on Tuesday, November 12 and hosting Eastern Michigan on Saturday, November 16.
-Last week, the Vikings opened the season by going 1-2, playing road games at Michigan and Kansas State and picking up a 91-53 victory over Baldwin Wallace.
-Through the first week of the 2024-25 campaign, Dylan Arnett is averaging a team-best 12.0 points, along with 7.3 rebounds.
 
Fencing
-The Vikings will be back in action at the UPenn Elite Invitational on Saturday, November 16.
-Last time out, the men’s and women’s teams competed at the Vassar Invitational, with both teams claiming two wins on the day.
 
Wrestling
-The Vikings will host their first dual of the year on Friday, November 15, welcoming Columbia to Woodling Gymnasium.
-Cleveland State opened the year with 18 placers and seven champions at the Bob Del Rosa Open hosted by Case Western.
-Ben Aranda (125), Jake Manley (133), Tate Geiser (165), and Daniel Bucknavich (285) were champions in the open division, while Connor Holm (165), Xander Myers (197), and Shane Cook (285) won titles in the freshman/sophomore division.
 
Women’s Tennis
-Cleveland State wrapped up its fall season at the ITA Conference Masters last week, with the doubles team of Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario in action.
-The duo dropped a pair of matches against East Tennessee State and Fordham after earning a spot in the national tournament by winning the doubles title at the inaugural Horizon League Individual Championships.
 
Viking Of The Week Nominees
Dylan Arnett, Men’s Basketball
Averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds on the week, including a career-high 19 points against Baldwin Wallace, and his third career double-digit rebounding performance with 10 boards at Michigan.
 
Shane Cook, Wrestling
Won the freshman/sophomore division at 285-pounds at the Bob Del Rosa Open after going 3-0 on the day.
 
Mickayla Perdue, Women’s Basketball
Averaged 30.0 points on a .513 field goal percentage through the first week of play, including a career-high tying 31 points in the win at Chicago State.
 
Emma Walker, Volleyball
Averaged 7.57 digs per set on the week, combining for 53 total digs against Youngstown State, including a 31-dig effort in the series opener.
