Major Airports Surrounding Connecticut Are Not Ideal for Holiday Travel

Traveling during the holidays just seems like a nightmare. Even on the roads, you see such an uptick in traffic. Now think about it – if roads are bad, airports are a whole other animal you have to deal with.

A lot of people have to travel to their families during peak holiday season and while it’s an exciting time for some, it’s also extremely frustrating. Holiday travel equates to so many delays, long lines, an abundance of people and so much more. Airports during busy season stress me out, so I can’t imagine during holiday season.

Just recently, Jettly came out with some stats about airports during holiday time including airport wait times and delays. It was broken up into two major holiday categories – Thanksgiving travel and Christmas / New Years travel. Connecticut’s main major airports sat on almost every single list.

Something that’s good about being from Connecticut is being close to New York City. New York has unlimited options for us when it comes to travel – planes, trains, buses, etc. The major airport hubs that people from Connecticut usually take are John F. Kennedy International (JFK), LaGuardia Intl. (LGA) or Newark Liberty International (EWR). If you’re a frequent traveler, you definitely have your favorites and least favorites of the surrounding airports. Me personally, my favorite would probably be JFK and my least favorite is definitely Newark.

Jettly’s stats shows that JFK Intl. sits in the top 3 for airports with the longest average peak wait times during Thanksgiving season with 53.2 minutes spent in security lines. Newark made an appearance on that list as well at 46.2 minutes. Newark also sat in the top 3 of airports with the most flights delayed during Thanksgiving peak time with 18.6% of their flights delayed. JFK made an appearance on that list as well at 17%.

When broken up into Christmas / New Year travel, JFK sat at number 4 on the list for airports with the longest average peak wait times with an average of 62.1 minutes with Newark not falling far behind at 49.7 minutes. No closer proximity airports made the delayed flights list for Christmas / New Years travel, so that is a good thing at least.

Holiday travel is already so expensive, so I completely understand why experiencing things like this can be so frustrating. We have an amazing airport in Hartford, but it is most definitely not the cheapest option. It might be smart to consider other airports this holiday season when traveling. Lucky for us, we have multiple options to pick through.

Five Businesses That We Will Never, Ever See Here in Connecticut

You can get almost anything that your heart desires in the State of Connecticut, except for the products produced by these five national retailers and fast-food companies. The only way to enjoy anything from the following places is traveling out of Connecticut, or ordering it on Amazon, and a burger isn’t the same after jetting across country.
