Large layoff planned for McLean County eyewear business

NORMAL (25News Now) – Nearly 100 employees of an optical manufacturing business in Normal are set to lose their jobs by the end of the year.

According to October’s WARN report, the Acuity Optical Laboratories located at 2221 W. College Ave. in Normal will be permanently closing its doors. The business is listed as one that manufactures plastic products.

Under state law, employers must notify the state when they plan to lay off workers. This is known as the WARN Act, also known as the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Additionally, the business currently operates under the name Identity Optical.

The only layoff date scheduled in the report is scheduled for Dec. 20, five days before Christmas. Ninety-nine employees will be impacted by the closing.

25News reached out to Acuity Optical Laboratories for comment but did not hear back.
