The viral Instagram fan accounts supporting fashion’s most famous names

On a recent visit to iconic pizzeria Gino Sorbillo in Naples, designer Miuccia Prada was surprised with a pizza featuring the word “Prada” spelled out in mozzarella cheese. The moment was dutifully documented by @whatmiuccia, an Instagram fan account that chronicles daily outfits, personal moments and more from the life of arguably the most influential fashion designer living today.

That photo, originally posted by the restaurant, quickly went viral and was shared by other fashion accounts such as @upnextdesigner and industry insiders like top model and Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti.

The creator of @whatmiuccia likes to stay anonymous, just like the individuals behind similar fashion fan accounts that have proliferated on Instagram in the last few years. They include @tomfordforgucci, which celebrates the decade the US designer spent at the helm of the Italian brand, and @wintourworld, a daily look at American Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s get-ups from fashion week and other glamorous events.

The most successful of these accounts is @newbottega, devoted to the leather-goods house Bottega Veneta, which famously deleted its own Instagram account in 2021. Curated by @lauranycole, the account has become the de facto Instagram page of the label and boasts more than 1.5 million followers.
