Support local stores this holiday season during Small Business Saturday

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Small Business Saturday is an initiative that pushes consumers to buy from local businesses.

You can support local, independently-owned businesses this holiday season on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30.

Small Business Saturday falls during the busiest shopping season of the year. It serves as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday which normally feature big-box retail and e-commerce sales.

Sioux City’s Downtown Partners is pushing for community support during Small Business Saturday by offering a chance to win a gift basket filled with over $500 in prizes from local businesses.

Shoppers can enter the competition by taking a photo at a Downtown Sioux City business, sharing it on social media or emailing it to info@downtownsiouxcity.com and tagging both Downtown Partners and the business.

Tracie Tuttle, Business Development Coordinator with Downtown Partners says the initiative shines a spotlight on some great local businesses in Siouxland.

“We hope [this campaign] helps you find more reasons to shop small and appreciate what makes downtown special,” said Tuttle.

A Small Business Economic Impact Study conducted by American Express found that for every $1 spent with a local business, over two-thirds ($0.68) stays in the local community. In comparison, for every $1 spent at a national retailer, only 30% to 40% (or $0.30 to $0.40) stays local.
