$3K Ring Stolen At Fitness Center: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

NO VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE

Jonathan Hernandez-Gonzalez, of Mundelein, is accused of disobeying a traffic control device, no valid driver’s license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:40 a.m. Nov. 8, at Shermer Road and Lee Road. A court date of Dec. 18 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Mariah O’Brien, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, improper parking, and was arrested at 4:32 p.m. Nov. 8, in the 1700 block of Happ Road. Both police and fire personnel responded to a report of a woman unconscious in her vehicle. They found O’Brien behind the wheel of her Jeep. Police said she appeared to be intoxicated, while her vehicle blocked the bicycle lane and the residence’s driveway. Due to O’Brien’s extreme intoxication, she was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A court date of Dec. 27 was assigned.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

• Richard J. Howard, of Wheeling, is accused of having an expired registration, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:01 p.m. Nov. 11, in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. A court date of Dec. 18 was assigned.
• Lathia M. Wright, of Chicago, is accused of having an expired registration, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:12 p.m. Nov. 11, at Willow and Greenwood roads. A court date of Dec. 18 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A citizen reported at 4:54 p.m. Nov. 8, that while house sitting for a neighbor in the 2500 block of Illinois Road, someone broke into the house when he was not there. The subject smashed through the front door and stole a Coleman generator, valued at $600.

TRESPASSING

A neighbor of a resident in the 2500 block of Illinois Road contacted police at 4:34 p.m. Nov. 9, to report she had seen two young men on the property of a house under construction. The two appeared to have gained access to the house without the owner’s permission by prying a window open on the south side of the residence. When the officers arrived, the pair had fled the area.

IDENTITY THEFT

A River Falls Drive resident called police at 9:07 a.m. Nov. 10, to report she had received a bank statement indicating someone had taken a $45,500 loan out using the complainant’s address and a fake name. The complainant explained this isn’t the first time someone had used some of his information to commit identity theft. The complainant contacted the bank and let them know of the fraud.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1400 block of Kingsport Court called police at 1:07 p.m. Nov. 10, to report someone had cracked her rear passenger window on her 2024 gray Jeep while it was parked overnight in her driveway. The vehicle was still locked and it didn’t appear anything was missing.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

• Police responded to a burglar alarm at 6:39 p.m. Nov. 10, at a facility no longer in business in the 1300 block of Techny Road. While checking the exterior, the officers found a smashed window on the north side of the building. It appeared someone used a brick to smash the window. The officers did not find anyone inside the facility.
• The caretaker of a religious center in the 3700 block of Dundee Road reported at 10:12 a.m. Nov. 12, he had found a newly broken window on the northside of the building. The complainant stated he had checked the facility on Nov. 11 and there wasn’t any damage. It is unknown who broke the window.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A Sugar Pine Circle resident called police at 7:32 p.m. Nov 10, to report someone had used her credit card number to fraudulently purchase fast food and alcohol at two locations. The amounts totaled approximately $235. She also received a fraud alert from her bank indicating someone was attempting to open a credit card in her name. The complainant disputed the fraud on her credit card and froze her accounts.

THEFT

A citizen reported at 12:31 a.m. Nov. 12, they had arrived at their workout facility in the 4100 block of Dundee Road wearing his necklace, which had a ring attached to it. At some point in his workout, his necklace fell without him noticing. After realizing his necklace was gone, he spoke to the staff. They found the missing necklace, but the $3,000 ring was missing. The complainant believed it was stolen.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Police responded to a burglar alarm at 3:23 a.m. Nov. 12, at a car dealership in the 1800 block of Holste Road. The officers found the west garage door opened slightly and an east service door ajar. After checking the interior, they realized the group had fled prior to their arrival. The owner checked all the cars and items inside, and it appeared nothing was taken. After reviewing the surveillance footage, three people were seen breaking into the business, rummaging through offices, then fleeing in a dark-colored Ford.

COMPUTER FRAUD

The owner of a business in the 400 block of Lee Road called police at 6:31 a.m. Nov. 14, to report the business had received an email regarding payment owed to a vendor. The email that was listed as a location to send the payment to was hacked. The complainant sent a wire transfer of $8,392.48, but never realized it was sent to a fraudulent person until the original vendor advised of the computer hack.
