Lake Erie Crushers celebrate Christmas Around the World
Christmas Around the World, a showcase of different Christmas traditions, will be held at the Lake Erie Crushers stadium from Nov. 29 to Jan. 4.
From Australia all the way to Ukraine, the Avon stadium will highlight the way different cultures celebrate the holiday. The event focuses on each attendee’s five senses, making it an immersive experience.
“At Christmas Around the World, you’re going to be able to immerse yourself in different cultural traditions,” said USA Expositions Chief Operating Officer Adam Roggenburk. “You’re going to taste it through the food that we have and hear it through the music we play.”
Each family will be equipped with a ‘passport’ where they will explore each region and what it has to offer, whether it’s arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, or the 150 foot Snow Tube Hill that’s taller than the stadium.
Adults also will be able to join in on the fun with featured cocktails from the different regions. Roggenburk emphasized the popular European drink Glühwein which is heated up to 170 degrees.
“We have the machines being brought in and the product being shipped in from Europe to be served at the event,” Roggenburk said.
Lake Erie Crushers President Vic Gregovits joined a new ownership group in March of this year to make the stadium accessible year-round. Gregovits and Roggenburk partnered to bring the Christmas experience to Avon.
“It’s so much more than just baseball,” Gregovits said. “I think you will see people travel for a couple of hours to get to this event because there’s not one like it.”
Roggenburk hopes to bring the event up to the European standards of holiday celebrations.
“Europe is way ahead of us in the festival and event spaces,” he said. “There’s really no immersive Christmas experience throughout the United States up until this point.”
