Downtown Evanston is getting a serious style boost with the addition of Kivanci, at 1577 Maple Ave. The fashion design studio held its grand opening on Saturday, inviting guests to marvel at racks of elegant gowns and displays of vintage jewelry. “Our look is a mix of timeless elegance and contemporary trends, with a focus on personalized styling,” said owner and designer Leen Gundogdu.
Kivanci is more than a dress boutique. They offer custom design, alteration; as well as a comprehensive styling service for photo shoots, weddings and other special events. While they tailor each look to meet the client’s needs, they specialize in gowns and other formal wear.
“My personal designs are a luxury brand. I use the finest fabric, and deliver a top quality product to my clients,” Gundogdu said.
While Gundogdu has a degree in archeology, she’s always had a passion for fashion. “Ever since I was five years old, I used to dress up in fancy hats. Fashion comes naturally to me, and it’s a way for me to express myself,” she said. “I love working with fabrics like tulle, organza and lace, and creating one-of-a kind pieces that resonate with my clients’ vision.”
