Vote for the Ashland County ‘Best of the best’ Fall sports Athlete of the Week winner
With fall sports on the verge of coming to an end, the Ashland Times-Gazette will give readers the chance to vote for the top fall sports athlete of the week winner in what we’re calling a “Best of the Best” poll.
The poll will run from 5 a.m. Monday to Noon on Thursday.
Fall Sports Athlete of the Week winners
- August 19-24 winner: Hillsdale’s Kael Lewis − Lewis threw six touchdown passes (all in the first half) and zero interceptions in his first varsity start at quarterback and helped the Falcons win 44-12 in Week 1. Lewis’ six touchdown passes set the Hillsdale school record for the most touchdown passes thrown in a single game.
- August 26-31 winner: Ashland’s Killian O’Brien − In the Arrows’ 53-29 away win over Marion Harding, O’Brien had three catches, 161 receiving yards and three touchdown catches, while also securing an interception at defensive back.
- September 2-7 winner: South Central’s Mya Inmon − In a three-set loss (19-25, 17-25, 21-25) to St. Paul, Inmon recorded her 1,000th career assist.
- September 9-14 winner: Mapleton’s Audrey Hellickson − In Mapleton’s 4-0 home win over Loudonville, Hellickson recorded a hat trick (three goals). It was her third hat trick of the season for the Mounties.
- September 16-21 winner: Northwestern’s Morgan Irvin − During the Huskies’ five-set loss (18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22,10-15) to Waynedale, Ervin had 30 digs and reached 1,000 digs for her career.
- September 23-28 winner: Hillsdale Dally Meek − Meek qualified for the Division II girls district tournament for the second year in a row at Pines Golf Club in Orrville. Meek shot an 83, which was second overall amongst individual golfers and one stroke behind sectional champion Mia Steigerwald’s 82 of East Canton.
- September 30- October 5 winner: Northwestern’s Jailynn Woodruff − In Northwestern’s 5-2 home win over Waynedale, Woodruff scored four goals for the Huskies.
- October 7-12 winner: Black River’s Olivia Szmania − At the Lorain County League Championship cross country meet in Wellington, Szmania won the girls LCC title in a time of 21:24.35. Szmania finished first amongst 45 runners.
- October 14-20 winner: Black River’s Connor Rhein − At the Division III District boys cross country meet, Rhein finished fourth overall amongst individual runners (17:00.90) and moved on to the following week’s regional meet.
- October 21-27 winner: Crestview’s Cooper Brockway − Brockway came in 20th overall amongst all individual runners with a time of 16:24.85 at the Division III district meet and advanced to his third state cross country meet.
- October 28- November 2 winner: Ashland’s Grayson Baith − In Ashland’s 42-0 shutout home win in the first round of the playoffs over St. Charles, Baith rushed for 82 yards on 12 carries and three rushing touchdowns.
