Mulva Cultural Center offers free admission to touring exhibits and films for low-income families

DE PERE – Low-income families can now enjoy the touring exhibits and films at the Mulva Cultural Center for free.

The $100 million facility that opened last December in downtown De Pere has joined Museums for All, a program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services that offers free or reduced admissions to museums for low-income visitors.

Entry to the Mulva is free to all visitors, but the traveling exhibits in the upper-level Exhibition Hall and film screenings in the Discover Auditorium require a separate paid admission. With the Mulva’s participation in Museums for All, visitors who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, are part of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program or who have BadgerCare/ForwardHealth can enjoy the exhibits and films at no cost.

The program allows entry for up to four people with the presentation of their SNAP, WIC or BadgerCare/ForwardHealth card and a photo ID.

Museums for All, which is administered by the Association of Children’s Museums, was created to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. More than 1,300 institutions in the United States and Virgin Islands participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums and more.

In Green Bay, the Children’s Museum of Green Bay and Green Bay Botanical Garden are also participants of the program, according to the Museums for All website.

The Mulva Cultural Center is currently hosting “Sharks,” a touring exhibit created by the Australian Museum, through Jan. 5. Its next large-scale visiting exhibit will be “Unofficial Galaxies,” billed as “one of the largest private single collections of ‘Star Wars’ memorabilia in the world.” It opens Jan. 25.
