Br. Edward J. Donaher, SSP 1935-2024

CANFIELD — Br. Edward J. Donaher, SSP, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley.

Br. Edward was born in Medina, New York, on Jan. 22, 1935, to Edward and Helene Wythers Donaher. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in graphic design. After graduation from RIT, he worked at Kilborn Graphic Design Studio in Rochester, New York. He also served in the military as a radio operator in the reserves.

He entered the Society of St. Paul on Oct. 13, 1963, entered the novitiate on Sept. 7, 1964, and made his First Profession of Vows on Sept. 8, 1966. He made his Final Profession on Sept. 4, 1971.

Within the congregation, he served as vocation director and part of the formation team from 1971 to 1980. From 1980 to 1988, he served as co-director of Alba House Communications in Canfield. From 1988 to 2020, he was graphic designer for St. Pauls Publishing in Staten Island, New York. He also served several terms as provincial councilor.

In 2020, he retired to St. Paul Monastery in Canfield. In retirement, he did a few graphic design jobs, but mainly offered prayer for the apostolate and members of the Society of St. Paul.

On Oct. 22, 2024, he fell in his room and went to the hospital for treatment, and eventually to a rehab facility for physical therapy. He contracted COVID and returned to the hospital with an infection. He went to Hospice of the Valley on Nov. 11, 2024, and passed away at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at St. Paul Monastery Chapel, Canfield, with the praying of the Rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at the monastery. Burial will be in the cemetery on the monastery grounds immediately afterward.

The funeral Mass will be live-streamed on the monastery YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/@stpaulcanfield.
