The Wickedest of Cynthia Erivo’s and Ariana Grande’s ‘Wicked’ Fashion
When the stars of the much-anticipated Wicked movie aren’t holding hands and weeping about how much they love each other, they’re serving some seriously wicked (I’m from Maine so I’m allowed to say that unironically) method dressing. Here are the highlights:
1. Cynthia Erivo in Schiaparelli and Ariana Grande in a lemony organza ballgown at the London premiere this week.
These are my absolute favorites from the whole promotional season because they’re on brand but not on the nose. Cynthia in black velvet is divine and that little bobble on her head is serving Munchkinland chic. Ariana’s obviously been wearing a lot of pink lately, but I think this sherbert color really compliments her skin tone and the fake blonde hair that I’ve never found to be super flattering on her. Also love the little John Lennon glasses—she looks like the coolest studio art student at Shiz University.
2. Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton and Ariana Grande in Thom Browne at the Los Angeles premiere.
This is one of those more on-the-nose looks color-wise, but I think the silhouettes are what make it successful. Cynthia pulls off slinky like no one else, and it’s so satisfying next to Ariana’s structure.
3. Cynthia Erivo in Erdem and Ariana Grande in Vivienne Westwood at the WSJ Innovators Award.
This one I love because it’s all of the best parts of the other ones combined: Cynthia in slinky, luxe fabrics and Ariana in structured, elegant finery. The white on Ariana is especially working for me, as it doesn’t wash her out like some of the pinker pinks.
4. Ariana Grande in Oscar de la Renta and Cynthia Erivo in Versace at CinemaCon.
Finally we get Ariana dressed like a little pixie instead of drowning in ball gowns. This could be Glinda ready for date night, and Elphaba’s meeting up with her at the bars after. I want both of these outfits.
5. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in custom Louis Vuitton at the Super Bowl.
This one’s just for funsies, because come on, those are the chicest football jerseys I’ve ever seen. Why are these not available for purchase? It’s gifting season, and the rest of the Wicked merch has left much to be desired. We’re leaving money on the table, people!
