Chris Collins, Kelly McKee Launch Genre Content Banner Generator Entertainment
John Wick 3 screenwriter Chris Collins has partnered with film producer Kelly McKee (Paterno, The Crow) to launch a genre media production banner, Generator Entertainment.
Also behind the new production and finance company is veteran entertainment attorney Ken Browning. The venture aims to develop, produce and finance film, TV and entertainment content around action, sci-fi, and horror projects in the $5 million to $20 million budget range.
Collins’ credits include FX’s Sons of Anarchy, Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Starz’s Crash. McKee was head of production at Pressman Film and co-executive produced Lionsgate’s The Crow, Mary Harron’s DaliLand, and co-produced HBO Film’s Paterno by director Barry Levinson.
Generator Entertainment is also backed by Hill Country Studios, a film studio outside Austin, Texas that will help finance upcoming productions set to shoot on its soundstages.
There’s no word on specific projects in the Generator pipeline, but the new venture said it has secured rights to major IP, including a screenplay from an unnamed Oscar winner being developed alongside Appian Way Productions. Two of the Generator projects will be shot at Hill Country Studios in late 2025, with two more planned for 2026.
Generator Entertainment’s Collins, McKee and Ken Browning in a statement said they were inspired by Cord Jefferson during his Oscar acceptance speech making a mid-budget plea to Hollywood to make twenty $10 million movies instead of a $200 million blockbuster.
“We are hyper focused on establishing a new brand in Hollywood that works with and supports filmmakers to make top shelf horror, action, and sci-fi that will appeal to true genre fans. Additionally, we will focus on international projects and filmmakers. We are lucky to have a veteran writer in-house to maintain quality control of the projects we take on, as well as a balanced team of founders to make sure we are strategic in our decisions,” the trio said.
Generator will be focused on strategic partnerships in Japan and Korea, where they have picked up major IP and are working with local talent.
