Chinatown business owners relieved as serial burglary suspect arrested in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A serial burglar tied to a series of break-ins across the Las Vegas valley targeting several businesses, many of which reside along the Spring Mountain corridor in Chinatown, was arrested Tuesday morning.
“It’s really fulfilling because I see all of the officers that put in the overtime through the sheriff’s mandate to patrol the Spring Mountain corridor,” said Colin Fukunaga, Owner of Fukuburger.
Fukunaga is one of several business owners who’s experienced his fair share of break-ins at his business near the Spring Mountain corridor and while hearing of the string of burglaries targeting many of the businesses along the same corridor, Fukunaga became one of the driving forces who helped support the businesses affected and push for the suspect’s arrest.
“Recently a lead was developed and through investigative measures, we were able to identify 34- 34-year-old Cedric Hasan as the suspect in this series,” said LVMPD Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez.
LVMPD Deputy Chief Hernandez says through their investigation, detectives connected Hasan to 34 reported incidents involving small business burglaries across the Las Vegas valley dating back to June which ultimately led to his arrest.
“It was just a matter of time, you know? Especially with the amount of footage and the M.O., I think you could really identify by the mannerisms more than just the clothing and the little tidbits. It’s a lot easier to identify who can do this type of crime,” Fukunaga said.

While charged with 34 counts of theft for the incident which has since been reported to police, LVMPD detectives say Hasan also took off with more than $100,000.
“It reaches beyond the money, it’s the feeling about being violated and your hard work and you know? The money that did get stolen in the restaurant is nothing compared to the damage that they do. The broken glass, the broken doors, the feeling of just being violated with your staff; feeling uneasy of just going to work,” Fukunaga said.
With Hasan’s arrest, Fukunaga says he and other business owners are looking forward to strengthening their relationship with LVMPD.
“When he hit three businesses in a row, it was a very somber feeling like almost like someone had passed, but now I just feel like this is just like the beginning of a continuing relationship and a growing relationship that is going to happen in the Spring Mountain corridor,” Fukunaga added.
Hasan is set to make an initial appearance at the Clark County Justice courthouse Wednesday morning.
