General Mills has announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Hannibal, Missouri. The expansion will include a new Old El Paso hard-shell taco production line, increased square footage, and infrastructure enhancements, creating more than 35 new jobs in the region.
Governor Mike Parson expressed his support for the project, highlighting the state’s ability to attract global manufacturers. “General Mills’ expansion in Hannibal is another example of our state’s status as a prime destination for world-class manufacturers,” Parson said.
The facility, which has operated in Hannibal since 1972, produces food across multiple categories and brands, including Nature Valley, Betty Crocker, Old El Paso, and Progresso. With this latest development, the facility will employ over 1,000 individuals.
General Mills Plant Manager Tim Johnson emphasized the importance of the Hannibal location to the company’s success. “Hannibal is a key manufacturing facility for General Mills, and this latest investment will enable us to expand our footprint and grow our plant community,” Johnson stated.
Missouri’s Department of Economic Development is supporting the project through the Missouri Works program, which provides tax incentives for job creation. Additional assistance may come from Missouri One Start to support recruitment and training efforts.
Newly created jobs are expected to pay an average wage above the county average, providing a significant economic boost to the area.
Maria Kuhns, Executive Director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council, also celebrated the announcement. “General Mills is an integral part of the Hannibal region, and we’re proud they recognize Hannibal’s long-term potential and continue to make it a key part of their success,” Kuhns remarked.
