Dorset snow: School closures and travel problems across county

Life is starting
to return to normal across west Dorset. The A35 between Bridport and Dorchester
is fully reopened, although only expect one lane open on the dual carriageway.

With many
schools closing for the day, children and teenagers flock to their nearest
piece of sloped ground.

In Dorchester, that’s Maumbury rings – a Roman
amphitheatre turned sled arena. I wonder if the Romans ever suspected they had
made the perfect snow-day stadium.

This time of day
would usually see many parents
departing work for the school run, but with schools closed, the
roads are quiet and thawing, albeit treacherous.

This afternoon,
as the snowfall is easing across the county, don’t become complacent. It’s
still very sludgy out on the roads and pavements and, if you are driving, make sure to leave plenty
of stopping distance between vehicles.
