Tips for Thanksgiving travel at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Airport Authority has provided some tips for anyone traveling to or from Eppley Airfield for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel weeks of the entire year both here and across the country, with officials expecting to see the bulk of travelers on Sunday (Dec. 1), Tuesday (Nov. 26), and Wednesday (Nov. 27) — in that order.

Around 186,000 travelers are expected to come through the doors at Eppley throughout the week, which officials say is a 2.7 percent increase from last year.

As has been the case for some time now, Eppley is undergoing a major expansion project, so the pick-up and drop-off areas will look different to anyone who hasn’t traveled through Omaha recently.

Departures and arrivals are located on Level 1 of the South Garage and drivers can expect to see signage that will direct them to the correct lane. There will be no parking fees for drivers picking up or dropping off travelers.

Two free cell phone lots located to the north and south of the terminal are available for anyone waiting to pick-up a traveler from the airport, and there’s also a new pick-up and drop-off location for travelers with special needs, located in the South Garage or the front drive lane designated for commercial vehicles.

As a general rule of thumb, the OAA recommends all travelers arrive at Eppley at least two hours prior to departure and to always stay up-to-date your flight’s status.
