MSU Football survives in second half to beat Purdue

Michigan State football is still alive to reach the postseason.

The Spartans jumped out to a convincing lead in the first half, but had to hold in the final minutes to top Purdue on Friday night. Michigan State beat Purdue by the final score of 24-17.

Michigan State got off to a strong start, scoring on each of its four first half possessions. Purdue kicked a field goal on its opening drive, but Michigan State was able to rip off the next 24 points to build a 24-3 lead at the break.

Purdue dominated in the second half, holding the Spartans scoreless in the frame. However, Michigan State was able to make enough defensive plays in the final minutes to preserve the victory.

With the win, Michigan State snaps a three-game losing streak and improves to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play. Michigan State will remain alive to reach a bowl game with the victory over Purdue.

Michigan State will wrap up the 2024 regular season next week in a home game against Rutgers on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
