Thanksgiving travel looking good overall leading up to the holiday

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The busy holiday travel season can often been made worse by the weather. But this year, the weather looks to give us a break in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. However, Thanksgiving itself looks wet for many areas in the Southeast and East Coast.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY FOR THANKSGIVING RAIN

A cold front sweeps through the Southeast and East Coast Monday night into early Tuesday. If you’re hitting the roads early on Tuesday, you’ll encounter rain as you head west and north up the coast. However, travel to the west and south looks good with dry weather and plenty of sunshine.

Wednesday brings another pleasant weather day across the Southeast and East Coast with a mix of sun and clouds. However, a rain system starts to pick up across the Midwest. Rain looks likely for areas like Chicago, Cincinnati and into Nashville which could lead to delays on both the roads and in the skies. However, most of the Deep South stays on the drier side so travel to Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans looks rain free.

If you’re planning for last minute travel on Thanksgiving Day, the weather may slow you down. A cold front swings through areas east of the Appalachians bringing a solid chance for on and off showers. Travel across the Carolinas, into Georgia and as far west as New Orleans, you’ll be dealing with rain. And the rain and even snow mixing in stretches all the way up into New England. Once you get further west to places like Cincinnati, Memphis and Dallas, it dries out.
