Kansas City International Airport expects a busy Thanksgiving travel season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City International Airport says it’s expecting a record turnout for Thanksgiving travelers this year.
Measuring the number of passengers who fly between Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Monday, Dec. 2, the Kansas City Aviation Department expects to serve 261,156 passengers—a six percent increase from 2023.
Overall, KCAI has seen a 17 percent increase in yearly passenger totals since 2022.
The aviation department said the busiest days for travel are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after. Although the Transportation Security Administration reports the national average for security wait times to be 3.8 minutes, KCAI encourages travelers to arrive at least two hours early for their flights.
Online check-ins, monitoring flight statuses and having boarding passes ready to go are other tactics to ensure a smooth departure.
