iPhone 17 Pro Leak Reveals Major Changes With A Surprising Part-Aluminum, Part-Glass Design And A Larger Rectangular Metal Camera Bump At The Top
Apple’s iPhone 17 Air will be the company’s thinnest iPhone ever, and we have recently shared additional details on the design and internals of the device. It was previously reported that only the ‘Air’ model would bring the new design forward, but a new report claims that the company is planning to revamp the design of the entire iPhone 17 lineup. It has now been leaked that Apple is planning to bring back the aluminum design from years ago, ditching the recently incorporated titanium material that debuted with the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Apple is bringing back the aluminum design from years ago with the iPhone 17 Pro, but the company will add a glass portion for wireless charging
The Information reports that Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a major redesign refresh, similar to the iPhone 17 Air. The aluminum-finished frame is currently present on the standard models of the iPhone as the ‘Pro’ models shifted to stainless steel and then titanium.
The report claims that the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models will also feature an aluminum finish, which could pose a threat to the wireless charging of the device. To tackle this, The Information claims that the company will use glass at the back as well, which means that we can expect a dual finish on the back of the ‘Pro’ models. The top portion at the back of the device will feature aluminum, while the lower portion will come with a small slab of glass.
Apple’s other iPhone models will also undergo significant design changes next year. For instance, they’ll all switch to aluminum frames from stainless steel and titanium, one of the people said.
The back of the Pro and Pro Max models will feature a new part-aluminum, part-glass design. The top of the back will comprise a larger rectangular camera bump made of aluminum rather than traditional 3D glass. The bottom half will remain glass to accommodate wireless charging, two people said.
The camera bump will be larger, more pronounced, and made from aluminum, compared to glass on the current versions, which is an eerie design choice, but it remains to be seen how the company would market it. The last time Apple used aluminum on the higher-end models was before the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, which means that the company will give the device a full makeover.
The glass on the lower portion of the device will make room for wireless charging, but there are no details available on the aluminum-to-glass ratio. Furthermore, there are no details available on the thickness of the device at this stage, so be sure to stick around for more details. The company could bring the iPhone 17 Air’s thin structure to the ‘Pro’ models as well, but that remains to be seen.
