More than a million Kentuckians expected to travel for Thanksgiving
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – More than one million Kentuckians will travel 50 miles or more to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA of the Bluegrass.
AAA says 96% of those Kentuckians traveling are hitting the roads.
For outbound travel, Tuesday is the busiest day. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon are the two worst times for road congestion.
The best time to drive is as early as possible, Tuesday and Wednesday, and any time on Thanksgiving day.
We recently spoke with AAA about how many Kentuckians are flying. While TSA says they expect to break records this week, there won’t be as many Kentuckians taking to the skies despite total travel numbers rising almost 2%.
“Air travel for Kentuckians is kind of flat compared to last year. That 2% increase is actually made up with vehicle travel and more people deciding they’re going to take a cruise over that travel period,” said Lori Weaver Hawkins, AAA of the Bluegrass.
The national average for gas prices is down as well.
