Omaha business helps clean up grease stain at MLK Jr. Memorial

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The grease stain welcomed people who came to look at the Martin Luther King Memorial on the corner of 24th and Lake streets.

LaVonya Goodwin is the President of the North 24th Street Business Improvement District. She said that this was not acceptable.

“We had several citizens come up to us and say this is not safe,” Goodwin said.

Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson knew about the problem, and he knew a couple of guys who own a small business that could make the problem go away.

“We need more folks like that in our community, willing to step up and lend a helping hand, especially before the holidays,” Hanson said. “I think its good to get this cleaned up so it doesn’t become a safety issue over the winter.”

“We’ll put a degreaser down, it will take five ten minutes, then we’ll come with hot water surface cleaner, should take it right up off the concrete,” someone said.

Tyler Davidson and Trevor Safrenek are the owners of T-Squared Maintenance. They clean up parking lots and handle post-construction cleanup, so this is right in their wheelhouse.

“Well, we live in Omaha, we were born and raised, the company started here, we love taking care of our community so we’re doing it for free and hopefully we’ll get his cleaned up for you guys,” Safrenek said.

The stain was set-in and tough. Trevor had to go over the greasy stain twice, but he got it done.

“Its just nice to help the community, so anything we can do help Omaha out, we jump on it and love to help the community,” Safrenek said.

“Good on them, I’m glad we have people in our community that care enough about our whole county, and even individual neighborhoods, to do what’s right and help out their neighbors,” Goodwin said. “This is a cultural center point for North Omaha, as a kid that went to North High, it means a lot to me too.”

Goodwin is happy the corner is clean again, and ready for traffic.

“As a Business Improvement District, maintaining the cleanliness, litter, beautification is one of our top priorities, so clearly getting this resolved quickly right before some of our holiday events is just perfect, so we thank those that got out here and made it happen,” Goodwin said.

The folks at T-Squared Maintenance want First Alert 6 to say that Hotsy Equipment Company provided the cleaning solution at 24th and Lake.
