What is Small Business Saturday?

We have all heard of the popular “Black Friday,” but what exactly is Small Business Saturday? Well the name says it all, it’s supporting or shopping at small businesses on Saturday.

Small Business Saturday (or Shop Small Saturday) which encourages consumers to shop from the 33 million independent businesses in the U.S., initially launched in 2010 by American Express, reported Courier Journal, a USA TODAY NETWORK publication.

The Senate passed a resolution officially recognizing the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday, the report stated.

Small Business Saturday this year is on Saturday, Nov. 30.
