South Dakota retailers are ready for shoppers this holiday season.

South Dakota Retailers Association Executive Director Nathan Sanderson says South Dakota retailers are seeking to enhance the holiday shopping experience by offering creative gifts and great values.

“Local stores really go all out at Christmas to make it fun for customers to find the perfect gift at the right price,” he said in a release. “Whether it’s a high-end gift or a stocking stuffer, a new or refurbished item, or instore or online, South Dakota businesses have high-quality, one-of-a-kind items that make great gifts for family and friends.”

Janet Scherbenske, owner of Found by Weathered Vane in Rapid City, says customers have been eagerly awaiting the season.

“Our customers love Christmas and have been asking since October when we were putting our Christmas out,” she said in a release. “We try to offer our customers an experience when they come in to Found, with wonderful Christmas displays and scents, Christmas music playing, and a great assortment of merchandise for them to choose from.”

At the other end of the state, Angi Hanzlik at Berry+Basil in Chamberlain says customers are in a lively mood.

“We have found that a lot of our customers really are looking for gifts for their friends and family that include unique items that they can use, not necessarily more ‘stuff’ to clutter their homes,” she said in a release. “One of the most popular gifts that we have here at Berry+Basil are recipe kits. We put together a little gift basket that includes all the ingredients to make a fun meal, or pairing of a wine and cheese, and things like that.”

“The holiday shopping season is short this year, with just 26 days from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve,” Sanderson said in a release. “So we encourage people to check out their hometown businesses soon to make sure they’re ready to make this a great Christmas.”

Nationwide, the National Retail Federation is projecting record spending during the holiday season.

The South Dakota Retailers Association is one of the nation’s oldest and largest trade organizations, operating as the South Dakota Restaurant, Grocers, and Hospitality associations. The association helps South Dakota businesses and customers, offering information, advocacy, and money-saving services to 4,000 members.
