Football: Silva stars as World Legends edge J Classics in Yokohama
Former global stars David Silva and David Trezeguet were among the scorers as World Legends saw off J Classics 4-3 on Wednesday in a one-off football match in Yokohama.
The 38-year-old Silva, a former teammate of Japan attacker Takefusa Kubo at Real Sociedad before his retirement last year, set up Robert Pires’ opener and Trezeguet’s winner while scoring their second himself at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium.

“We were helped by good displays from the likes of (former Brazil star) Kaka and Silva,” World Legends captain and fellow Spaniard Michel Salgado said after the match.
J Classics, composed of former stars of Japan’s J-League, came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit with three quick-fire goals, capped by Yoshito Okubo’s 58th-minute tap-in set up by Daisuke Matsui, but Javier Saviola leveled before Trezeguet buried the 74th-minute winner.
Stars from past decades lit up the show as Dida, Marco Materazzi, Ricardo Carvalho, Joan Capdevila, Christian Karembeu, Edgar Davids, Esteban Cambiasso and Fernando Morientes also featured.
