Suns’ Jalen Bridges ranks among G League leaders after latest game

Phoenix Suns rookie Jalen Bridges continued a strong start in the G League on Wednesday and ranks among the scoring leaders after his latest performance with the Valley Suns.

Bridges produced 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot in a 136-113 win over the Stockton Kings. He finished by shooting 8-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range, in 34 minutes as the Suns improved to 5-3 this season.

The undrafted forward from Baylor scored 10 points alone in the third quarter to help the Suns push their lead to 26 points entering the final period. He did the majority of his work from behind the arc and also converted a tough finish at the rim in transition in the third quarter.

Bridges, signed to a two-way contract, is averaging 24.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 50% shooting from 3-point range in four games. He has scored at least 20 points in each game and ranks eighth in the G League in scoring average among all players. He is tied for second in 3s per game (5.0).

The 23-year-old has spent the majority of the month in the G League after making only two appearances with Phoenix. He scored his first point of the season in his debut on Nov. 13 at the free-throw line and is still looking to convert his first field goal in the NBA.

Bridges was highly touted out of college as a versatile player who can spread the floor and defend multiple positions with his 6-foot, 10-inch wingspan. He has showcased those traits early on in the G League and will look to continue his run throughout the season.
