WYOMISSING, Pa. – Shoppers at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing almost missed out on the chance to score some Black Friday deals because of major safety concerns.
Borough officials mandated the closing of several sections of the mall’s parking lot due to “the continuing opening of sinkholes throughout the parking and travel lanes.”
Following a hearing on Friday, November 22, the borough and the mall reached an agreement to address the immediate safety concerns and keep the mall open during the holiday shopping season.
Representatives of the mall say the borough could have mandated that all stores, with the exception of Boscov’s, shut their doors indefinitely starting Wednesday had the affected sections of the lot not been closed to parking.
The areas in which travel and parking are prohibited are clearly marked and blocked off to prevent entrance. Mall visitors are advised to follow all posted signs and avoid restricted areas.
The borough provided a map to inform visitors which lots and entrances are closed.
Access to the interior of the mall will be through Boscov’s, one of the two entrances (middle and north) on the State Route 222 side of the mall, or through the entrance located adjacent to Ruby Tuesday’s.
Borough and mall officials say these restrictions will be in place until further notice.
