Small Business Saturday not all it is cracked up to be, say local business owners

There was Black Friday, the biggest online shopping day of the year, immediately followed by Small Business Saturday, a day devoted to promoting small, independent businesses. Small Business Saturday is a big deal. Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno even issued a proclamation touting it. But does it make a difference to local shops? Not so much, at least according to some shopkeepers, although they appreciate to recognition.

“It’s nice that they have it, but we have other business promotions here in Northampton,” said Aaron Borucki. He is one of the owners and is the chief operations officer of Downtown Sounds, a music store on Pleasant Street. “We just had Bag Day.”
