Another big travel day ahead
- Single digit lows ahead
- Sunny skies to end the weekend
- Watching for snow by the end of the week
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – It has been a brisk day out there today as a large arctic airmass continues to dominate much of the eastern half of the US. We started the weekend with temperatures in the teens, and real feel temps in the single digits. And while we’ve had plenty of sunshine today, that hardly warmed us up at all, only up too the lower 20s.
Tomorrow begins the big travel surge again. If family or friends come to visit us here in southern Wisconsin from the southern or southeastern US, then it will be quite a change for them when they return home. This arctic blast that we are under has also pushed all the way down to the Gulf Coast, where freeze warnings are in place.
Travel around our area tomorrow is looking good. We’ll stay mostly sunny, but chilly and breezy. But if you are traveling to parts of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania or New York, then just depending on your final destination, it could be quite a problem. Lake effect snow has been piling up downstream of the Great Lakes, and in some areas, they have already received over 3 feet, locally almost up to 4 feet. Some major highways are closed as snow falls at rates of 2-4″ an hour. Make sure to check your local area for updates ahead of time.
What’s Coming Up…
This coming week will be a cooler week than we’ve felt for much of November and now heading into December. While much of the last 3 months have been above average in temperatures, arctic air will be the norm as we head into December. Tyrol and Cascade Ski Resorts have been taking advantage of these temperatures and making snow.
Looking Ahead…
Wednesday looks like it will be our only above-freezing day before the weekend with all the rest of the days staying in the 20s or lower. And it looks like we’ll have to wait till next Friday or the weekend for our next chance of snow.
