State Street Ballet celebrates 30 years of “The Nutcracker” with a production featuring over 150 dancers, musicians and performers, Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 at The Granada Theatre.

After tours to Spokane, Washington, and Durango, Colorado, the company will bring its home performances to Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 and 2 p.m. Dec. 22.

The production will feature students from the State Street Ballet Academy alongside professional dancers from the company’s main ensemble, as well as trainees from its Professional Track program.

Live music will be provided by Opera San Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra, conducted by Brian Asher Alhadeff. The performance will also feature the SING children’s choir of Music Academy of the West.

This year’s cast includes two Music Academy students, Chanel von Yurt (Saturday matinee), Catalina Brace (Sunday matinee); and a company artist Brenna Chumacero (Saturday evening) in the role of Clara.

The Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Akari Kato and Saori Yamashita, with Cavaliers Harold Mendez and Ryan Lenkey. Sergei Domrachev will perform as Herr Drosselmeyer and Mother Ginger.

A highlight of the production is a new snow pas de deux, choreographed by Nilas Martins, former principal dancer with New York City Ballet and State Street Ballet’s new artistic associate.

Aimee Le and Maria Rita Rapisarda will dance the Snow Queen, while Ethan Ahuero and Ryan Lenkey will portray the Snow King.

The production features costume design by A. Christina Giannini, Nicole Thompson, and Mary Etta Lang; set design by Daniel Nyiri and Yuriy Samodurov; and mask and doll design by Robert Joyce.
