Fire reported at North Charleston upholstery business

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The North Charleston Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire at an upholstery shop.

Firefighters were called to a report of a fire at 2400 Spruill Ave. around 1:15 p.m. Friday, department spokesperson Capt. Laura Kondor said.

Those first on the scene reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a small brick building.

Fire crews were able to get control of the fire about one hour after the initial 911 call.

The two people inside the building were able to get out safely on their own, Kondor said.

They were evaluated by Charleston County EMS, and one was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Kondor said one firefighter was also evaluated on scene and released.

The North Charleston Fire Department, Charleston Fire Department, St. Andrews Fire Department, North Charleston Police Department and Charleston County EMS responded to the call.
