Family-owned business in College Station speaks out after attempted break-in

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Security camera footage shows three masked individuals attempting to break into Military Depot early Monday morning.

Security camera footage captured the suspects covering a camera with tape as well as attempting to shatter the front door with a crowbar.

Case Smien, who manages wholesale and is the owner’s son, said fortunately the products behind the door are mostly untouched.

He said an estimated $500 worth of merchandise had been stolen, but he’s thankful it wasn’t more.

“We’re so densely packed in the store and outside, we were still trying to figure out what was taken. But you know, I believe in miracles. It was miraculous that they didn’t get in through the front door because that glass is no different than the boot room glass,“ he said.

The doors to the boot room were shattered with a crowbar, and an opening behind the building had to be replaced.

“There was a wooden panel leading into the building. Actually, it was layered so they couldn’t get in, but we removed it, and we actually are already putting brick back there,” he added.

Military Depot is a family-owned and Aggie-owned business that has been operating for several decades.

“It’s sad though. It’s just another headache to deal with as a small business. My dad’s been in this community, Military Depot’s been in this community for over 40 years,” Smien said.

The business reported the attempted break-in to College Station police and hopes the suspects will be quickly identified.
