Apple issues fourth developer beta of visionOS 2.2

Mirroring a Mac’s display on an Apple Vision Pro

Apple has distributed its fourth developer beta build of visionOS 2.2, giving the Apple Vision Pro’s operating system more testing time ahead of a public release.

Following the Thanksgiving weekend, Apple had a more relaxed beta release than usual on Tuesday, with the first build in this round being visionOS 2.2’s fourth iteration.

The third round of this version of visionOS was handed out to developer testers on November 18.

The big change to visionOS 2.2 are display options for when you’re mirroring a Mac’s display. Users can select wide and ultra wide views, which gives a much larger macOS desktop to use, which is the equivalent of two 4K displays side by side.

Other spotted changes include how audio now routes through the Apple Vision Pro speakers instead of the Mac’s, as well improved responsiveness for gaming.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto “mission-critical” or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
