Black Friday and Cyber Monday capture much of the attention in terms of consumer spending in the days around Thanksgiving; however, Travel Tuesday – which falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – is carving out a name for itself too. Rather than hunting for deals on gifts, Travel Tuesday participants hope to score discounted flights and accommodations.
New CivicScience data show roughly one-third of U.S. adults who are aware of Travel Tuesday report they are at least ‘somewhat’ likely to shop for travel deals on the day this year, including one in ten who are ‘very’ likely to do so.1 Consumers under 45, especially Gen Z aged 18-24, are far more likely to plan on partaking in Travel Tuesday. Democrats are eight percentage points more likely than Republicans (34% to 26%) to have an interest in participating, while Americans living in the West are most likely to participate compared to residents in other regions.
