Everything Zen at ZenStudio Fitness

“Zen” as an adjective is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “peaceful and calm.” The word comes from a Japanese Buddhist sect by the same name that highly regards meditation, self-discipline and intuitive thought.

Camden Hyneman first had the idea for ZenStudio Fitness after attending SoulCycle classes in New York City. Hyneman now runs the studio with her wife, Hannah.

“I had never loved working out, but I truly loved these classes because they had great music, moved to the beat and had fun choreography,” she said. “I actually started looking forward to working out.”

In 2010, she brought the idea to Jonesboro, not only becoming the first boutique cycling studio in the state but also the first to offer barre classes. After a successful launch in Jonesboro, she expanded to Little Rock. Today, the studio offers everything under one roof. They have three individual studio spaces, each with a full schedule of unique classes in one convenient location. They offer childcare during all of their weekday classes from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. as well as the weekends. Hyneman said ZenStudio provides a space where “busy moms can get in some ‘me time’ while their kiddos are able to have fun too.”

Now in the industry for 15 years, Hyneman has taken countless certifications in cycling, barre and group fitness. Her sister-in-law, Leah Hyneman, is the other lead trainer, with 20 years of experience in the field and a degree in exercise science. Leah is certified to teach yoga, barre, cycling and group fitness.

“Around 10 years ago, my sister-in-law and I developed our own in-house training for our cycling and barre methods,” Hyneman said. “Our teachers go through a weekend-long certification course, after which they spend anywhere from 4-8 weeks in group and individual training sessions with us until we feel they’re ready to go live on the schedule. Teachers for all other methods hold group fitness certifications. We pride ourselves on how thoroughly trained all of our teachers are.”

Classes include indoor cycling, strength training, barre, barre bounce (using a mini trampoline), fusion flow (a gently heated pilates hybrid class), kickboxing, yoga and combination classes like cycle + strength and cycle + barre. They also lead express 30-minute classes and will soon launch red light therapy and compression therapy sessions in 2025.

“What I love about our diverse offerings is that we’re able to help clients achieve a really well-rounded fitness routine,” Hyneman said. “Strength training to build muscle with heavier weights, keeping a healthy heart with cardio, and maintaining good flexibility and a strong core are all crucial as we age. So, at ZenStudio you can truly get everything you need with our diverse offerings.”

Weekday classes start as early as 5:30 a.m. and as late as 6:30 p.m., while classes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Customers can choose to attend individual sessions or save on a class pack. An eight-class per month unlimited pack is available. Hyneman said their best deal is the VIP membership, which includes unlimited sessions and additional perks of free childcare, retail discounts, two late cancel/no-show credits per month and discounted events and workshops.

No matter what you choose to do at ZenStudio, there are definitely exciting things coming in 2025.

“We have started developing more of a wellness side to our business, so in 2025, we will have red light therapy and compression therapy at our Little Rock location,” Hyneman said. “Our Conway location will have red light and compression, as well as an infrared sauna and a cold plunge. We would love to keep expanding our wellness offerings in the future. As always, we will continue to stay on top of the newest fitness trends and adjust our offerings to reflect that.”
