“Marvel Rivals” Launches To Major Numbers

Marvel

Almost all live-service games have died a notable death this year with the high-profile failures of “Concord,” “Foam Stars,” “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” and “XDefiant” all failing to find an audience.

But every now and then a title succeeds which keeps the hope alive for short term-profit driven executives. It worked for “Hellblazers” earlier this year, and now this week’s release of “Marvel Rivals” has done it again in an even bigger way.

NetEase Games’ title launched on December 6th as free-to-play and it’s already off to a strong start, the title reportedly pulling in 10 million players in its first three days.

To put it in comparison, “Overwatch 2” passed 25 million players within 10 days of its launch – so this is a very good start. The game has also hit a high of 480,990 concurrent players on Steam – the second-biggest-launch for a brand-new free-to-play game ever.

“Marvel Rivals” boaats 33 playable characters from the Marvel universe, including Magneto, Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Magik, Cloak and Dagger, and more.

Gameplay takes place across eight maps and boasts modes Convergence (King of the Hill), Convoy (Escort), Convergence (Hybrid) and Conquest (Deathmatch).
