Hingham Sports Partnership Begins Construction on The DOCK Fitness and Wellness Center at Hingham High School – Hingham Anchor
December 9, 2024 By Hingham Sports Partnership
Hingham Sports Partnership (HSP) Board members, town and school officials, corporate supporters, students, and members of the community gathered to ceremoniously break ground to mark the beginning of construction on The DOCK, a wellness and fitness center at Hingham High School.
“Words cannot describe how ecstatic we are for today,” says HSP Board President Deb McCarthy. “We began fundraising 2 years ago for this project. We are so grateful to the community for supporting our vision to create an inclusive, modern space for wellness and fitness at Hingham High.”
The DOCK, a 2,500 square foot modern facility to be located at the HHS Athletic Complex, will help HHS expand electives, such as yoga and more, offering a better space to host these electives and help improve students’ wellness. HHS sports teams will also have a more modern space to build strength, wellness and camaraderie.
The DOCK is being completely funded by philanthropy. Generous individuals and businesses who have supported the effort include Jim and Anne Davis, owners of New Balance; Coastal Dealerships; South Shore Bank; Symmons; and Special Needs Athletic Partnership. Senator Patrick O’Connor also secured a $100,000 grant from the State of Massachusetts.
“While we’ve begun construction, we need to raise $200,000 more to meet our goal,” said Campaign Co- Chair Kevin Quilty. “We ask that those who have not yet contributed will consider making a gift at any level as they plan their year-end charitable giving.”
HSP expects the project to be completed by summer 2025. The DOCK is being built as HSP and the town celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the HHS Turf Field Project. HSP was a significant funder for the field project. The DOCK is the nonprofit’s largest project to date.
