World’s Best Cities released its list of the world’s 100 best cities for 2025, ranking them based on three main factors: Livability, lovability and prosperity. That is, the quality of life in a city (both physically and mindfully), as well as generating wealth and prosperity.
Here’s the Ohio city that ticked all the boxes and landed among the world’s best.
Cleveland named one of the best cities in the world
Ohio’s second-largest city, Cleveland made the list of best cities in the world, even ranking higher than popular international destinations such as Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Athens, Naples, Italy, and Cape Town, South Africa. It also ranked higher than Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, its neighbor to the southeast.
Cleveland is the only city in the Buckeye State to make the 2025 best global cities list.
Ranked at No. 70 out of the 100 cities featured, Cleveland’s metropolitan area boasts just over 2 million residents in 2024 and ranked the second-best in the world for the price-to-income ratio subcategory, which tracks the affordability of housing.
Why is Cleveland among the world’s best cities?
Cleveland’s cost of living combined with a bustling city culture helped it stand out on a global scale and secure a spot on the world’s best cities list. The median home price in the Cleveland metro area is $140,000, according to Realtor.com.
When describing the City of Champions, The Best Cities ranking says that Cleveland is a place “where American second-tier-city cool meets affordability.” The list praises the city’s vast entertainment options, including its 40-plus breweries, restaurants, and diverse culture.
“Young talent has plenty of reasons to stay, from affordable housing…to a revitalized, walkable downtown of late 19th-century architecture and stately streetscapes,” the description continues. Cleveland’s healthcare system (ranked No. 26 in the world by Best Cities) is home to the Cleveland Clinic, which boasts one of the world’s largest healthcare systems.
The Rock ‘N’ Roll capital is also home to a number of professional sports, from the Browns to the Cavs to the Guardians. Famous stars such as Halle Berry, Phil Donahue and Drew Carey called Cleveland home at one time.
