Mariah Carey Blocks One Of The Hottest Rappers In The World From Chart Domination

Kendrick Lamar’s name is all over the Billboard charts this week. The rapper’s new surprise album GNX easily conquers nearly every ranking it reaches, and the songs featured on it all land on multiple tallies. The superstar is one of the most famous and respected names in the music industry, and his performance on the weekly rankings shows just how massively popular he is at the moment.

As the GNX tunes arrive, Lamar owns the entire top 10 on several Billboard lists. That’s a fairly rare sight on any list, and it’s reserved for only the biggest acts in the business. While he owns the loftiest tier on a handful of tallies, he almost repeated that showing on one of the most competitive rosters published by the company, but a legendary chanteuse keeps him from total domination.

Mariah Carey is the only artist besides Lamar that manages to score a top 10 hit on the Streaming Songs chart. Her smash “All I Want for Christmas Is You” lands at No. 10 on Billboard’s list of the most-streamed tracks of any style or from any era in the U.S.

Last week, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was sitting pretty at No. 6 on the Streaming Songs ranking, perhaps on its way to the top spot—a position it’s reached in a previous December. Now, it’s fallen to No. 10, though likely only for a short time. If Carey’s timeless hit had declined by just one more space, Lamar would have been able to lay claim to the entire top 10.

Lamar currently fills positions one through nine on the Streaming Songs tally. He snags a sixth No. 1 with “Squabble Up,” which fans selected as their favorite tune from GNX the moment it dropped. That cut also starts on top of at least half a dozen other rankings.

The rapper also appears in the next eight positions with all of the following GNX tunes: “TV Off” with Lefty Gunplay (No. 2), “Luther” with SZA (No. 3), “Wacced Out Murals” (No. 4), “Hey Now” with Dody6 (No. 5), “Reincarnated” (No. 6), “Man at the Garden” (No. 7), “Dodger Blue” with Wallie the Sensei, Siete7x, and Roddy Ricch (No. 8), and “Peakaboo” with AzChike (No. 9). His own “Heart Pt. 6” is new at No. 11, and several other tracks from the album also start further down on the same roster.

He might have managed to score 10 new top 10 smashes on the Streaming Songs ranking, but Lamar does fill the entirety of the uppermost arena on all of the following Billboard lists: the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, Hot Rap Songs, and the Rap Streaming Songs charts.
