Danielle Monet Truitt visits Booker High School to teach students about entertainment industry

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A special treat for students at Booker High School in Sarasota on Monday. Danielle Monet Truitt, one of the stars of Law and Order: Organized Crime teaching students at the school all about the entertainment industry.

Her focus was on in front of the camera work as well as behind the scenes.

Truitt says “I think it’s important because when I was their age I didn’t have anybody who was in the industry who had gotten to where I dreamed of being one day. I didn’t have anybody like that come to my school and share their journey, so it really does reinforce the things the teachers are trying to instill in them.”

This is part of the ongoing Creative Empowerment Program, which is a collaboration between Semkhor and Florida Winefest/Caring for Children Charities.

Tylee Giorgio is one of the students in this program, “It’s very inspiring to have a very successful woman come and share her experiences and her journey and what obstacles she had to overcome to get to where she is.”

Vaughn Garcia is someone who has been helping to videotape these events, getting a first-hand look at the success of the program, “It’s been really helpful picking up on all the practical skills that the program upholds.  This idea that you take a student that has so much theory and so much classroom work and really says it’s time to get out there.”

Truitt says this program really resonates with the students, “This is a great time sharing the mountains I’ve climbed and where I’m at and just giving inspiration to what they could look forward to as they continue pursuing a career in television, film, and art.”
