Bitty & Beau’s Coffee opens location in Columbia, aims to bring job opportunities to people with disabilities

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A famous coffee shop that’s known for offering employment to people with disabilities is opening a new location Saturday in downtown Columbia.

The grand opening will take place at 10 a.m. on at 1001 Gervais Street.

Bitty & Beau’s Coffee was started by the Wright family and named after their two children with down syndrome.

The coffee shop started in Wilmington in 2016 and since then has opened 19 locations. Their Columbia location will be their 20th.

“80% of people with disabilities don’t have jobs ― and we’re out to change that. Not just by providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities, but by showing our guests what’s possible,” said co-founder Amy Wright.

Bitty & Beau’s Coffee has employed 450 people with disabilities across 12 states, according to a press release from the company.
