Christmas program in Mexico inspires all to Light the World and be angels in others’ lives

The Christmas season began for many in Mexico with a Light the World Christmas broadcast which included festive music and inspirational messages.

Previous devotionals have been held in coordination with the turning on of Christmas lights at the Mexico City Temple. But this year, the broadcast took place further north in San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí.

This year’s theme was “Be an Angel in Others’ Lives,” in line with the Light the World theme of “Be Someone’s Angel.”

The Light the World initiative from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an annual campaign that invites people to participate in acts of service and kindness in the days leading up to Christmas.

Elder Moisés Villanueva, General Authority Seventy and member of the Mexico Area presidency, spoke during the broadcast about the importance of showing love and compassion to others.

“Dear friends, Jesus Christ is the source of love and light,” he said. “As we begin this Christmas season, our minds turn to remember the little baby who was born in a manger in Bethlehem. This humble birth marks the beginning of a life dedicated to teaching, healing and loving all without exception.”

Elder Villanueva invited those in attendance — and those who watched the broadcast from other parts of the country — to be an angel to their neighbors by bringing light and hope to those around them.

“Christ came to the world to teach us greater love,” he said. This is the ideal season to show greater love to all, share the good tidings of great joy and invite all to come unto Christ.”

Singers and musicians from San Luis Potosí and other cities in Mexico performed Christmas carols, and the broadcast ended with a sing-along.

The program also included the story of the Nativity told by young people along with images of the Savior’s birth.

One of the participants said they loved seeing others use their gifts and talents to worship God through music, according to a news release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
