Fitness program dedicated to uplifting wounded veterans gets a boost of its own
Our country’s veterans and active-duty military members make countless, undeniable sacrifices for our wellbeing every single day. RBC Wealth Management is honoring the selfless efforts of our service members with a donation to a cause that has been dedicated to veterans since its beginning.
The Catch A Lift Fund was founded in 2010 after Army Cpl. Chris Coffland lost his life serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. Coffland viewed fitness as an amazing way for people to reach their peak potential mentally and physically, and from that core belief Catch A Lift’s mission was born.
This initiative connects wounded warriors to gym memberships, home gym equipment, nutrition plans, and support groups so that they can experience some normalcy after returning from combat, feel fulfilled in their daily lives as civilians, and recover from the injuries they suffered during their service. The program is flexible to each veteran, centered around the idea that fitness is a personal choice made in stride with unique goals, needs, and interests.
“We have 14,000 men and women across this great nation that are in the Catch A Lift fund, healing through fitness,” said Lynn Coffland, Catch A Lift President and CEO.
After exiting the military, especially combat situations, veterans may struggle with PTSD, isolation, and adjusting to a new routine. They may have poor or nonexistent coping mechanisms for the stress they feel. Catch A Lift helps veterans overcome those hurdles along with a community of people who are experiencing similar challenges.
RBC Wealth Management was impressed by the impact Catch A Lift was making in veterans’ lives and wanted to give back with a $2,500 check.
“We support so many good causes, but something about this is extra special because of the sacrifices they make,” said RBC Wealth Management.
