Combating addiction: Marsha Young offers counseling services address alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. – The Sabetha Herald
On Monday, Aug. 19, Marsha Young of Sabetha, officially established a new business in the Glacial Hills Business Resource Center called Young Counseling Services, LLC. Here, Marsha offers alcohol, drug and gambling counseling.
Additionally, Young Counseling Services offers alcohol evaluations to see if a person qualifies for SB 123 through the Kansas State Sentencing Commission. This Senate Bill program was established with the goal of providing substance use disorder (SUD) treatment to people convicted of non-violent drug offenses.
Earlier this year, in June, Marsha decided to start her own counseling facility with the intention to help those with gambling and other addictions, and because there isn’t an outpatient facility in the area specializing in addiction counseling, Marsha decided that Sabetha would be her location of operation.
“I have wanted to open my own clinic for years, but when I found out that the place that I was working at would not allow me to use my gambling counseling license to help the people there, that was when I decided to find a way to open my own facility,” Marsha said. “I realized, as a counselor, that there was not an outpatient facility in this area when I was trying to refer patients back in the local area. So, I decided that Sabetha would be a good place to open one.”
Counseling Sessions
For any client at Young Counseling Services, communication is key. Sessions with Marsha include almost an hour of discussion and planning to work through a solution to a client’s addiction. An individual session can last approximately 50 minutes depending on the service.
“During a counseling session, my clients and I discuss what they want to work on and figure out a plan as to how they would like to get their lives back to where they would like them to be. We also discuss what has happened to put my client into their present situation. My counseling is faith-based, and person-centered for the most part,” Marsha said.
With four months under her belt as a business owner, Marsha continues to broaden her abilities to provide more services to her clients.
“Since I have started my business, I have expanded it to include alcohol and drug assessments with the Kansas Sentencing Commission. I am also licensed in the State of Missouri as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor and have been since 2011,” Marsha said. “I can also provide SATOP [Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program] classes and weekend intervention classes in Missouri.”
Marsha does not have a standard price for her sessions, since the prices vary depending on the service and how long a session lasts. She accepts the following insurances, though insurance is not required for Marsha’s services:
• Aetna
• Blue Cross Blue Shield
• Meritain Health
• ProviDRs Care
• UnitedHealthcare/Optum
Marsha accepts cash, credit and debit cards for payment.
