Oklahoma man charged after chase spurred by threats made at Adrian business
ADRIAN, Mo. (KCTV) – An Oklahoma man has been charged in connection to a high-speed chase spurred by threats of violence at an Adrian, Missouri, business.
The Bates County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office says that on Sunday, Dec. 8, the Adrian Police Department requested aid after a man later identified as Micah A. Breshears, 43, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, had threatened employees of a local business and pulled a firearm on them.
A probable cause statement filed by the Adrian Police Department indicated that Bresheares threatened to shoot employees before he shook a long rifle with a scope. Multiple employees said they have had previous run-ins with Breshears and continue to feel unsafe.
Shortly after the call, law enforcement officials said they found Breshears in his truck, and demands were made for him to exit the vehicle. As deputies approached the pickup and attempted to place a tire deflation device, Breshears sped off before they could do so.
The Sheriff’s Office said it began to chase Breshears as the Missouri State Highway Patrol set up additional deflation devices along the way. Even after his back tires were deflated, Bresehars continued to flee.
At one point, law enforcement officials said Breshears bailed from the truck and ran. As more verbal commands were made, Breshears got back inside the truck and took off a second time.
The probable cause statement noted that the chase reached speeds of 100 mph. Due to recent winter weather, the roadways had also been slick from light rain. At least one innocent driver was almost hit by Breshears during the pursuit.
The Sheriff’s Office said it took the lead and began to initiate a Grapple as Breshears continued to speed. As the Grapple was initiated, Breshears pulled over and stopped. Law enforcement officials were able to break his window and unlock the door.
As law enforcement officials attempted to take Bresehars into custody, they indicated that he began to put up a fight. He had a set of metal handcuffs in his vehicle and began to use them as a weapon as he hit those on duty with them, his fists and his feet.
The Sheriff’s Office said a sergeant on the scene deployed his taser and hit Breshears, who continued to fight and pull the taser prongs out. He was eventually taken into custody and taken to a nearby hospital where he was medically cleared before he was booked into the Bates County Jail.
The probable cause statement revealed that a search of Breshears’ truck found the firearm in question which was determined to actually be a pellet gun. However, the pellet gun did not have any orange markers on it or indicators that the gun was not a true firearm.
Law enforcement officials noted that one deputy involved suffered multiple fractures to his eye and a hole in his retina. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated. He is expected to recover but will need further medical treatment for the injuries he suffered from Breshears.
On Monday, court documents revealed that a warrant was issued for Breshears’ arrest and he was charged with assault, aggravated fleeing a stop and unlawful use of a weapon.
As of Wednesday, Dec. 11, Breshears remains behind bars with no bond listed. A counsel status hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16. No further information has been released.
