Hundreds to travel to North Pole in spirit at Discovery Playhouse’s Polar Express Night

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Friday, December 13 is when the Polar Express arrives at Discovery Playhouse in Cape Girardeau.

Children can wear their pajamas as they travel to the North Pole in spirit and complete holiday-themed activities.

Beginning at 6 p.m., there will be reindeer food making, cookie and tree decorating, gingerbread houses, letters to Santa, snowflake and ornament making, games, and more.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will pay a visit, along with other holiday characters.

Registration has closed as of December 9, but there is a waitlist available for families to add their names to. Email info@discoveryplayhouse.org. Cost is $15 per person.

Executive director Christa Weber said more than 200 people are registered for the event.

“We wanted to make sure it was accessible for all kids of all ages and abilities,” Weber said. “This is just a great event for families to get together and enjoy the holidays, we have so many activities planned, and it’s just a time for families to just forget about all the stress of the holidays and enjoy one another.”

Discovery Playhouse opens the door to a fun-filled education for tens of thousands each year. The number of patrons is nearly 45,000.

Exhibits range from a pretend spa to a veterinary clinic to an art studio and many more.

“Our mission really is play-based learning, we believe that children learn best through hands-on, play-based experiences, that’s what we bring to the community through Discovery Playhouse.”

Weber said community sponsors make up much of the nonprofit’s funding. Anyone interested in sponsoring an exhibit or event can contact Weber via email.

The museum is located at 502 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. It’s open every day but Monday. Visit the Facebook page for more details.
