Artificial Intelligence has entered into the fitness world on Delmarva – 47abc

DELMARVA – Artificial intelligence has made its way into the fitness world. Many people are asking for research to “work out” some of the potential positives and negatives of this technological advancement.

When it comes to fitness, most wouldn’t think the workout equipment, would be the one ‘working out’ their plan and tracking their progress.

Artificial Intelligence

Is technology needed to lose weight and stay fit? Manager of The Exercise Coach in Lewes Marc Dickerson says Ai in fitness is a way to help people along. “With technology AI is integrated into every part of the world right now, so why not integrate it into our fitness programs?… They absolutely love it. Because it’s something for any of our clients, younger, older, they haven’t seen AI used in the fitness world yet, so they really like to see it, and when they look at a screen, they get immediate feedback on how well I am doing my reps.”

Marc says this is really good for those 50 and above, and it’s a lot safer than a regular weight room. “These machines are called Exterbotics, and what we do with the client. we get the client in, we do a range of motion test, because you don’t want to go too far back with certain leg muscles, and arm muscles, because it could be really bad on your joints…. So, what the AI does we do a range of motion test so you can’t go outside that perimeter and have a chance to hurt yourself.”

Traditional Gyms

Speaking of safety, AJ Angello, Owner of A4 Training in Salisbury says they may not have that technology, but they do have the training. “Say like you’re working out, and you get like little injury or something nagging you, the AI app may not be able to work around that. Versus as trainers, like, we’re trained to do that… We do a lot of different testing procedures, whether it’s movement screens for mobility, different ranges of motion. If they’re athletes, we do a lot of performance testing.”

He says they do use a small form of technology, but for instance, if the website goes down, the workout, will go on. “We use an app called Team Builder, to program all our exercises for all of our clients, our groups, stuff like that. Sometimes we’ll have a client or two where they just kind of come in and we just kind of roll with it for the day, to keep ourselves on our toes. So, if something like that were to happen, we’d be able to work with it.”

Pros and Cons

They both have their own thoughts on how technology will continue to progress within fitness. Angello thinks it better to have someone who can pivot and has been through the ringer. “Obviously, AI has its good things, but like I said, there’s going to be some sort of technical difficulty, and as people that have been doing these years and years, we see the same things every day.”

Dickerson believes this is the future, and we should take all the help it can give. “I’ve seen so many times, been in the weight room and people lock their arms our, they’re jerking the weights around real fast, and you just know they’re setting themselves up for injury down the road. ”
