Fall sports All-Stars brighten up Lynn Museum

LYNN — Talk about the stars aligning.

Daily Item All-Stars were honored at Lynn Museum on Wednesday for their athletic achievements during the fall sports season. Featured sports were football, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country, field hockey, volleyball, and golf.

As the Lynn Museum filled up – cookies, brownies, and coffee included – student-athletes, coaches, teammates, friends, and family members gathered to celebrate the constellation.

Emceed by the Item sports staff, each sport was recognized with All-Stars receiving custom plaques. Each sport concluded with an Athlete of the Year and a Coach of the Year.

A Lynn Classical duo highlighted the volleyball awards. Amanda Hughes (Greater Boston League MVP, 500-kill club) was named Athlete of the Year, while Chris LeBlanc was named Coach of the Year. His Lady Rams went 18-4 and captured the GBL title.

With a 36.9 scoring average and a 9-4-2 record, Marblehead’s Marty Ryan was named Athlete of the Year in golf. Brett Molea earned coaching honors, as his Lynn English Bulldogs went 9-1-2.

Running over to cross country, Marblehead highlighted the boys’ portion. Will Cerrutti (first-place finishes in Twilight Invitational and Division 2A Championship) and his coach, Brian Heenan (7-0 regular season), went home with awards. On the girls’ side, Marrietta O’Connell continued the Marblehead stretch after going undefeated in the regular season. Peabody’s Fernando Braz scored Coach of the Year honors after his Lady Tanners delivered yet another strong season.

Lynnfield’s Gia Marotta, a Best-of-60 Senior All-Star member this year, was named field hockey Athlete of the Year. St. Mary’s Victoria Sanders went home with coaching honors after her Spartans went 14-5-1 and defeated Blackstone Valley in the state tournament.

On the gridiron, Tyler Adamo of Lynnfield was named Athlete of the Year in football. He threw for 2,213 yards and 34 touchdowns, with only three interceptions. Coach of the Year belonged to first-year English coach Tyllor McDonald. His Bulldogs went 7-4, reached the state tournament, and defeated traditional archrival Lynn Classical for the first time in four years on Thanksgiving.

Rounding out the evening with soccer, St. Mary’s goalie Cian LeVasseur (12 goals allowed, 10 shutouts) received boys Athlete of the Year. Lynnfield’s Brent Munroe was named Coach of the Year after his Pioneers reached the state tournament game with a 16-win season. On the girls’ side, 38 goals and 16 assists were enough for Saugus’ Madison Botta to snag Athlete of the Year, while Marblehead’s Lisa Wales earned coaching honors. Her Magicians hosted a state tournament game for the first time since 2016.

After one more round of applause – plus some hugs, a group photo, and goodbyes – the ceremony marked the end of another fall sports season.
