Grand Ave. Artifactory to host Grinchy local business event
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Calling all those mean, green, and not a fan of the holidays. We might just have an event for you. A day dedicated to the Grinch lovers of the Central Wisconsin area.
‘Grinchmas on Grand’ is expected to be like a business crawl. People can visit any of the 37 local businesses taking part in the event on Saturday, Dec. 14, for discounts and promotions. It also allows people to get in touch with those new businesses in town.
Tis the season to be, “Stink, stank, stunk.” For Grinch lovers, Grinchmas on Grand might be up your alley. Especially if you visit the Grand Ave. Artifactory.
“It was just kind of one of those thoughts and dreams of something that we could do together as a community and as small businesses to offer something back to the community,” Grand Ave. Artifactory and event organizer of Grinchmas on Grand Jenni Phillipson said. “So, it’s just meant to be a really fun day. You can stop at one place, or you can try to visit as many or all.”
She says it’s a chance for the community to get into the holiday spirit through local businesses.
Even if she loves a fictional character who wasn’t too fond of the holidays at first.
“I thought Grinchmas on Grand sounded like it would be a fun name for our event,” Phillipson said. “This is obviously our first year doing this event. I’m hoping that it’s something that people will want to participate in every year.”
The event has around 37 businesses taking part. Including a newer one right down the road from Phillipson’s.
“People are still finding us. We’re not first on everybody’s thought list when they’re looking for gifts. So, this is a huge opportunity to be seen by even more people,” Co-Owner of Art on Grand Chuck O’Brien said.
O’Brien just opened Art on Grand last month. Now, he and Phillipson are both excited to see how this event can give local businesses more foot traffic.
“I mean, that’s huge. It’s a recognition that nobody stands on their own here,” O’Brien said. “We’re all working together. We’re all working as part of this community.”
“I think it’s really cool that we have such a nice community here and we have so many small businesses who are supporting each other,” Phillipson added.
